    Our Mechanics are vital to our mission to provide safe, affordable transportation throughout Pinellas County.  They perform routine to complex maintenance tasks on our fleet of diesel and hybrid buses and staff cars, and ensure that all vehicles are in top working condition.

     

    Mechanic, Journeyman, or Master level designation will be offered to the selected candidate based on the minimum qualifications listed below. Complexity of work assigned progressively increases from Mechanic, Journeyman, to Master Mechanic levels.

     

    Mechanic iCIMS

    Essential Functions

    Repair, recondition, or replace and repaint under close supervision all parts, components, units, or assemblies comprising a vehicle structure.  Including, but not limited to skirt and body panels, doors, floors, windows, glass, seats, etc.

     

    Prepares computer generated estimates of accident damage. Knowledge of parts manuals and looking up information a must.

     

    Orders appropriate parts and supplies for the repair function.

     

    Performs other duties as assigned including housekeeping. Some work at heights required.

     

    Journeyman Level and Master Level as listed above plus:

    Performs arc, acetylene, and aluminum welding at Journeyman or Master levels.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Mechanic Level

    Education:  High School diploma or equivalent. 

    Experience: Entry level work experience for one (1) year performing collision & refinish repairs.  Enrollment or completion of college level or vocational school coursework in collision & refinish repairs or a closely related field may substitute for one year of the required work experience.


    License:  Possession of a valid Florida driver license and be able to obtain a class B commercial driver license with air brake and passenger endorsement within a two (2) month period.  No serious traffic violations or suspension of driver's license, and no DUI's for the previous seven years. No more than seven points in the previous four years.

     

    Journeyman Level

    Education:  High School diploma or equivalent.  Completion of one (1) or more of the following:

    • An Associate's degree of college level or vocational school coursework in automotive Collision Repair & Refinish or a closely related field.
    • Certificate of completion from a vocation technical secondary school in automotive Collision Repair & Refinish or closely related field.
    • Successful certificate of completion from a transit Collision Repair & Refinish training program.
    • Can substitute four (4) years of related experience for one of the above three items

    License and Certification:  Possession of a valid class B commercial driver license with passenger and airbrake endorsements.  No serious traffic violations or suspension of driver's license, and no DUI's for the previous seven years. No more than seven points in the previous four years.
     

    Master Level

    Education:  High School diploma or equivalent.  Completion of one (1) or more of the following:

    • An Associate's degree of college level or vocational school coursework in automotive or diesel technology or a closely related field.
    • Certificate of completion from a vocation technical secondary school in automotive technology, diesel technology or closely related field.
    • Successful certificate of completion from a transit technical maintenance training program.
    • Can substitute four (4) years of related experience for one of the above three items


    License and Certifications: 

    • Possession of a valid class B commercial driver license with passenger and airbrake endorsements.  No serious traffic violations or suspension of Driver's license, and no DUI's for the previous seven years. No more than seven points in the previous four years.
    • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification as a Master Collision Repair & Refinish Tech (Tests B2-B5).

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    Knowledge of:  Body repair work, painting units or components which make up the vehicle structure; basic mechanical and vehicle painting skills.
     

    Skilled in: The use of all tools and equipment normally associated with heavy duty repair function (i.e. shears, brakes, presses, welders, etc.).
     

    Abilities: Must be able to perform basic body repair and paint functions to all vehicles.  Should be proficient in the use of all tools associated with heavy-duty repairs.  Must possess own hand tools in accordance with PSTA requirements.
     

    Environmental Conditions

    Noise/Vibration: Exposed to constant or intermittent noise levels above the ambient noise level. Occasional vibration, oscillation, movements of the extremities or whole body.
    Hazards: Temperature changes from weather conditions, injury exposures or potential injuries and exposure to atmospheric conditions as dust, fumes, vapors or mist that could affect the occupational health of the employee.
