Manage the public perception and reputation of PSTA through the flow of news information and communications to the media. Responsible for the enhancement and effectiveness of the press and publicity function. Serve as the media spokesperson and Public Information Officer for the agency.
Work closely with the executive management team to shape and implement agency communications and marketing including image and values strategy development.
Effectively inform and promote PSTA, its brand, its people, its mission and its product, ensuring that messaging aligns with key business strategies.
Develop and manage implementation of strategic marketing plans for various products, services, and events.
Serve as PSTA’s media liaison, Public Information Officer, and formal spokesperson, including identifying press opportunities and developing PR content; conducting media tours, events, and briefings; briefing staff, executives, and board members for media interviews; and writing executive speeches and talking points.
Develop and maintain relationships with regional, national and international news and trade media organizations. Develop and implement media engagement plan.
Research, write, and coordinate timely dissemination of news releases, features, and opinion editorials. Develop themes and storylines, and write articles to be published in different digital channels such as social networking sites, blogs, and the company’s website.
Prepare a variety of reports and correspondence for management review.
Use creativity and originality or unique or creative interpretation or analysis.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, or other relevant field.
Experience: One to three years progressively responsible media/publications experience in corporate communications, news reporting, or related field. Prefer experience as a visible spokesperson.
License Requirement: Must have a valid Florida Drivers’ license.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Demonstrated mastery of written and verbal English language skills in a journalism/corporate communications setting.
Ability to prepare and execute concise and professional written/oral communications.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and complete assignments with tight deadlines.
Proficiency with personal computer (PC) and software applications to include spreadsheet, word processing, and database
Professional interaction with executive staff, elected officials, the media, and members of the public.
